UF Health Shands Children's Hospital Renovation
Units 44 and 45
UF Health Shands Children's Hospital has launched its largest renovation project to date. Units 44 and 45, the pediatric medicine and surgical units, are undergoing significant changes to prioritize space for private patient care.










What to Expect?
- A fresh and dramatic floor-to-ceiling overhaul across both Units 44 & 45
- All patient rooms becoming private New room furnishings, including new lighting, modern finishes and new smart TVs with enhanced technical capabilities.
- All patient rooms will include new sleeper sofas.
- Additional family rooms where siblings and family members can have space outside of a patient room, where physicians can meet with parents, or simply a space for loved ones to decompress.
- Large common/flex space that can be configured for multiple purposes, including a play room, space for Child Life specialists or other social work and patient experience teams to work with patients, or a conference room for staff.
- Updated lobby.
- Large collaboration space for care providers to maximize communication between teams.
- New nursing alcoves for patient monitoring.
- Upgraded fellows’ workspaces, trainee call rooms, breakrooms and locker rooms.

Progress Continues on Unit 44
The renovation to Units 44 and 45 recently hit a significant milestone with the completion of demotion and the start of framing, along with the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems! The project, which started in May, is still on track, according to project manager Matthew Hartley.
